Prince, Van Lith among 20 players selected
FORT WORTH – Sedona Prince and Hailey Van Lith were named to the John R. Wooden Award Late Midseason Top 20 Watch List on Tuesday.
By virtue of their selections, Prince and Van Lith are among the frontrunners for the Wooden Award, presented annually for the nation's top player, as well as the Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player and consideration for the Wooden Award All-American Team.
Prince and Van Lith are the first pair of TCU teammates to be tabbed to the Wooden Award Late Season Watch list.
TCU, along with Notre Dame, LSU and UConn, is one of just four programs with multiple players in consideration for the accolade.
Prince and Van Lith are two of three finalists representing the Big 12 Conference alongside Iowa State's Audi Crooks.
They are the third-highest scoring duo in the nation, averaging a combined 35.7 points per game ahead of the 11th-ranked Horned Frogs' home tilt vs. BYU on Tuesday. Prince and/or Van Lith have produced a double-double in 12 of TCU's 25 games this season.
Prince ranks third in the country in blocks (75) and blocks per game (3.1). She is one of two players in America averaging at least 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks per game.
Van Lith has finished with 15 points and five assists in 13 games this season. Only fellow Wooden Award finalist Georgia Amoore of Kentucky has more 15-and-five games (15). The 5-9 guard is one of six D1 players with a 2-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and at least 140 assists to her name.
The national ballot will condense to 15 players in advance of the NCAA Tournament in March. The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced during the week of the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight. The Wooden Award recipient will be honored at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Friday, April 11.
