Purple edges White for two-point win
FORT WORTH – Freshman Kayden Edwards scored a game-high 23 points for Team White in its 68-66 loss to Team Purple Friday at Schollmaier Arena in an intrasquad scrimmage, part of Defenders Fan Fest.
In a game consisting of two 12-minute halves, the Fort Worth guard was 8-of-11 from the field, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range. Iowa transfer Brock Harding scored 14 points and led the game with 11 assists. Jace Posey also had 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.
Leading Team Purple was Utah Valley transfer Tanner Toolson, who made 5-of-9 from three and finished with 19 points. Xavier Edmonds, who was the top-rated junior college player nationally last year at Salt Lake Community College, added 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including two 3-pointers, to go with five rebounds. Providence transfer Jayden Pierre scored 11 points and led the team with six assists. Sophomore RJ Jones added 10 points to round out the double-figure scorers.
Collectively between the two teams, TCU shot 56 percent from the field and 49% from three (20-of-41).
The Horned Frogs will face another team for the first time on Sunday, Oct. 19 in an exhibition at Tarleton State. TCU opens the regular season at home on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. against New Orleans. Season tickets are on sale now.
