Led Team USA to Olympics bronze medal in August
FORT WORTH – Hailey Van Lith willed Team USA to 3x3 Olympics bronze medal and was formally tabbed her nation's best for 2024.
Van Lith was voted the USA Basketball 3x3 Female Athlete of the Year in conjunction with the release of the USA Basketball Annual Awards on Monday.
The TCU women's basketball standout was the only active collegian who competed for USA Basketball in 5-on-5 or 3x3 competition.
Van Lith proved to be the offensive catalyst for Team USA in its resurgent run to the medal games. The 5-7 guard led the Americans in cumulative scoring (47, 5.2 ppg), 2-point shooting percentage (53%, 8-15) and key assists (13). Behind Van Lith, Team USA won six of its final seven games after beginning pool play 0-3. Van Lith netted a game-high six points on 5-7 shooting in the bronze medal bout vs. Canada.
She is the first and only Horned Frog basketball player to win an Olympic medal. Van Lith also became TCU's first Olympics medalist since TCU Athletics Hall of Famer Jon Drummond helped Team USA win gold in the men's 4x100m relay at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
The Olympics bronze was Van Lith's seventh career FIBA medal.
Van Lith has averaged 18.3 points, 5.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game for TCU in her final college season. She ranks seventh nationally in total assists (127).
TCU (20-2, 8-1 Big 12) and Van Lith return to action at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Iowa State (15-7, 6-3) in a game that will air on FS1.
