Led Team USA in scoring in its run to second straight 3x3 medal
PARIS, France – TCU has its first Olympics basketball medalist.
Hailey Van Lith, a soon-to-be graduate student for Horned Frogs women's hoops, guided Team USA to a bronze medal in 3x3 competition at the Olympic Games Paris.
Van Lith led Team USA in cumulative scoring over its 10-game stay in Paris. She was the only active collegian selected to compete for USA Basketball in 5-on-5 or 3x3.
"I'm most proud of us for this last game," Van Lith said, "because we went from ... getting our gold medal dreams crushed to having two hours to turn around and play one of the best teams in the tournament in Canada. That game was all about mental toughness. And we really got it together. We showed mental toughness. And we won ourselves a bronze medal."
The 5-9 guard tallied a team-high six points on 5-7 shooting in Monday's medal game, a 16-13 defeat of Canada.
With Van Lith anchoring Team USA at the offensive end, the Americans won six of their final seven games en route to a second consecutive medal. Team USA took brought home gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
The six-day competition saw Team USA drop its first three decisions but string together five consecutive victories over Spain, France, Canada and China (twice) to reach the medal games. Spain took silver, finishing second to Germany. The Spaniards got the better of Team USA in a semifinal rematch, upsetting the Americans 18-16 in overtime.
Originally from Wenatchee, Washington, Van Lith is now a seven-time FIBA medalist.
Van Lith averaged 14.5 points, four rebounds and 2.8 assists per game over three seasons at Louisville (2020-23) and one season at LSU (2023-24) before transferring to TCU in April.
