First TCU women's basketball player to receive the honor
FORT WORTH – Janice Dziuk, a TCU basketball trailblazer, is headed to The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
Dziuk is one of eight members of a 2024 class of inductees voted on by the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. She is first TCU women's basketball player to receive induction into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
"I was stunned and excited all at the same time, when I received the call informing me of my selection to the SWC Hall of Fame," Dziuk said. "I am truly humbled to be recognized with such a well-deserving class. It is one of the most meaningful honors I've ever received."
Dziuk starred on the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum hardwood from 1986-90. Originally from Poth, Texas, Dziuk has ushered in a series of individual firsts for Horned Frogs women's basketball ever since her playing days.
She was the first and only player to receive All-Southwest Conference honors in program history, garnering the accolade her senior year in 1990. She was later selected to the Southwest Conference All-Decade Team for the 1980's. Dziuk averaged 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game over her four-year run in Fort Worth.
"I was proud to compete in such a premier conference," Dziuk said. "One that was rich in tradition and history and full of elite athletes. To say I will now be counted as one of those competitors, representing TCU in the SWC Hall of Fame is a true honor. I'm truly blessed to be included in the legacy of the SWC!"
Dziuk's pioneering achievements augmented following her playing days. She became the first of four TCU women's basketball players inducted into the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002 and is one of two to have her jersey retired in Schollmaier Arena alongside Sandora Irvin.
During her senior year, Dziuk was tabbed a SWC Scholar-Athlete, the TCU Female Athlete of the Year and the TCU Pop Boone Outstanding Athlete of the Year in addition to serving as team captain. She averaged a career-best 18.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
The 1989-90 season also saw Dziuk become just the second Horned Frog to tally 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds. She graduated with career totals of 1,448 points and 778 boards.
Dziuk's name and legacy continues to permeate across the TCU women's basketball record book. Her career rebounding average is the fifth-best mark in program history. Dziuk also cracks the top-15 in career rebounds (sixth), single-season scoring average (sixth, 18.6 ppg), field goals made (seventh, 545), and points scored (14th).
The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will be held at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Waco. The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame is one of four separate halls of fame housed within the Texas Sports Hall of Fame's building.
