FORT WORTH – TCU further fortified its post play with its latest transfer portal addition, signing 6-2 center Natalie Mazurek to its 2024-25 roster.
Mazurek spent the past four seasons at South Dakota, where she helped the Coyotes notch consecutive NCAA Tournament berths from 2021-22 and reach the WNIT Super 16 this spring. She averaged a career-best seven points and five rebounds per game in 2023-24 and started all three postseason affairs.
Hailing from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Mazurek and TCU head coach Mark Campbell first crossed paths in the 2021 NCAA Tournament in Campbell's final season as associate head coach at Oregon. Mazurek was a freshman on a South Dakota squad that matched up opposite the Ducks in a 6-seed vs. 11-seed tilt.
The signing of Mazurek adds another stretch forward to the Horned Frogs' rotation. Mazurek shot 37.8 percent (34-90) from deep in 2023-24. She ranked 15th nationally in 3-point percentage among all players 6-2-or-taller.
Mazurek has appeared in 84 games over her collegiate career. A season-ending injury sustained during her sophomore year robbed Mazurek of the 2022-23 campaign. Mazurek became an integral member of the Coyotes' frontcourt last season after receiving a clean bill of health.
She appeared in all 36 games for South Dakota while earning a career-high 19 minutes per game. Mazurek scored in double figures 12 times. Her production increased as the schedule shifted to conference play. Eight of her double-digit scoring outputs came at the expense of Summit League foes while she increased her rebounding average by two boards per game over the second half of the season.
Mazurek saw the floor in 24 of 35 games in 2021-22 in a season that saw South Dakota sweep the Summit League conference and tournament championships and reach the Sweet 16 in the Big Dance. She carved out a rotation role her freshman year, checking into 24 of 25 contests.
A four-year varsity run at Eden Prairie High School had Mazurek emitting across the D1 radar. Mazurek collected All-State honorable mention accolades her junior and senior years. She averaged 13 points and eight boards per night in her final prep season. Mazurek was a four-time recipient of All-Lake Conference accolades. She was active in the club circuit as well, helping Minnesota Fury AAU capture the 2019 Minnesota AAU State Championship title.
Mazurek is the sixth transfer player and second frontcourt player TCU has signed this offseason. TCU previously publicized the signings of fellow post Deasia Merrill and guards Taylor Bigby, Donovyn Hunter, Maddie Scherr and Hailey Van Lith.
