Emma-Nnopu finishes with 18 points, six blocks and four steals
FORT WORTH – An 18-point, six-block performance from Agnes Emma-Nnopu wasn't enough for TCU in a 77-52 defeat to No. 24 West Virginia on Tuesday in Schollmaier Arena.
TCU (15-9, 2-11 Big 12) was pestered into 20 giveaways against a Mountaineers team that entered averaging 24 turnovers forced per game.
The Mountaineers (21-3, 10-3 Big 12) outscored the Horned Frogs 45-18 over the second and third quarters.
Emma-Nnopu and Tara Manumaleuga tallied eight points apiece in the first half.
All eight of Manumaleuga's points came in the opening frame. The fifth-year senior netted eight of the Horned Frogs' first 12 points.
The Australian duo sparked a 7-0 run late in the first quarter to give TCU its first and only lead of the night at 14-13 with 1:20 to go.
TCU stayed within a possession of the Mountaineers twice in the second quarter off layups from Emma-Nnopu.
West Virginia closed the half with 10 unanswered points over the final 3:33 to take a 32-19 lead into the locker room. TCU was 1-11 from the field over the last eight-and-a-half minutes. The 19 first half points were the Horned Frogs fewest in a game all season.
The Mountaineers extended the scoring run to 16-0 and doubled up the Horned Frogs 38-19 after converting their first three possessions into points to begin the second half.
The deficit grew as large as 31 points, 68-37, with 7:16 to play. TCU responded with an 11-2 run over the ensuing three minutes but was unable to get any closer.
West Virginia forced 16 steals at the expense of the Horned Frogs.
TCU gave the ball away on six of its first seven trips down the court to begin the game. West Virginia turned the Horned Frogs over eight times in the third quarter, including four of its five defensive possessions.
Sydney Harris joined Emma-Nnopu in double digits with 12 points – eight of which came in the second half. Harris has reached double figures in six of her last eight outings.
Una Jovanovic snagged a team-leading and TCU career-high seven rebounds.
Freshman Jade Clack scored a career-best six points via two 3-pointers.
