Are the nation's highest scoring duo
FORT WORTH – Hailey Van Lith and Sedona Prince look the part of the best duo in college women's basketball, and the sentiment is supported by the sport's national pundits.
Van Lith and Prince received Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week honors as voted on by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
The TCU tandem were two of five players recognized, and each earned the accolade for the first time in their careers.
Together, Van Lith and Prince averaged 40.5 points, 21.5 rebounds, 10.5 assists and six blocks per game in leading TCU to convincing victories over No. 3 Notre Dame and South Florida on Friday and Saturday at the Cayman Islands Classic.
Van Lith's sensational second half roared the Horned Frogs back from a 14-point deficit vs. the Fighting Irish in an eventual 76-68 win. She scored 19 of her 21 points over the game's final 20 minutes, nine of which came in a fourth quarter in which TCU outscored Notre Dame 31-12. Van Lith shot 7-11 from the field in the second half and dished out seven assists against just one turnover.
Prince was every bit as good vs. the Fighting Irish. She finished with 20 points, 20 rebounds and eight blocks, becoming the first player in NCAA history to post the stat line vs. an AP Top 25 team.
The duo slowed no signs of a letdown the following night opposite South Florida. Together, they combined for 38 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists to pace TCU's 87-46 rout of the Bulls. Van Lith flirted with a triple-double, pairing 23 points on 8-15 shooting with eight rebounds and seven blocks. Prince produced a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double, the 18thof her TCU tenure.
The showing in the Caribbean transformed TCU into the toast of the college basketball world. The Horned Frogs (8-0) vaulted to ninth in The Associated Press poll – the highest ranking in TCU basketball history – and received the No. 5 NCAA NET ranking on Monday. TCU leads all Big 12 teams in both measures.
Van Lith and Prince are the nation's highest scoring duo. They are averaging 40 points per night ahead of TCU's home dual vs. Florida Atlantic (5-3) on Wednesday in Schollmaier Arena.
