
TCU Caps Cayman Islands Classic with 87-46 Rout of South Florida

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman – The Horned Frogs proved perfect in paradise.
No. 17 TCU steamrolled South Florida 87-46 on Saturday in the final game of the Cayman Islands Classic at John Gray High School Gym.
Sedona Prince was named the tournament's most valuable player one day after staking TCU to a monumental victory over No. 3 Notre Dame. Prince powered home a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double at the expense of the Frogs' former Conference USA rival.
Fellow graduate student Hailey Van Lith joined Prince on the all-tournament team after quietly flirting with a triple-double vs. the Bulls. Van Lith paired a game-high 23 points and eight assists with seven boards. She shot 8-15 from the floor for the second consecutive night.
TCU attained its second consecutive 8-0 start to a season under head coach Mark Campbell and is likely knocking on the door of its first AP Top 10 ranking following its showing in the Caribbean.
With Saturday's win over USF (4-5), the Horned Frogs notched six victories by 35 points or more in November and are one of just two teams nationwide sporting a pair of victories over preseason AP Top 10 teams. The other is reigning national champion South Carolina, whom TCU faces at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Dickies Arena.
TCU erased a 14-point third quarter deficit in its 76-68 upset of the Fighting Irish on Friday. Yet the Horned Frogs showed no signs of fatigue despite the 24-hour turn vs. USF, a program that has reached the NCAA Tournament in 17 of the last 20 seasons.
The Horned Frogs led for all but the game's first 26 seconds and raced out to a double digit advantage they never relinquished just five-and-a-half minutes in. TCU shot 53 percent from the field (31-59) and converted 12-29 attempts behind the arc. Prince and Van Lith's efforts fueled TCU to a 42-25 edge on the glass.
Madison Conner and Taylor Bigby gave TCU four double-digit scorers, as they finished with 14 points and 10 points, respectively. They finished a combined 6-13 from downtown.
TCU drilled four deep balls over the game's opening five minutes and took a 14-4 lead into the first media timeout. Bigby connected from distance twice in that span. A crossover and-one by Van Lith widened TCU's first quarter lead to 21-6 with 2:29 to go in the period.
She entered halftime with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists as TCU led 40-22.
Bigby, Conner and Prince netted eight points apiece in the game's opening 20 minutes. TCU also benefited from four bench points by Aaliyah Roberson in the second quarter.
USF crept within 13 points of the Frogs at 44-31 at the 6:30 mark of the third quarter. The Horned Frogs countered by draining 5-8 looks from deep to take a 63-41 lead into the final frame.
Conner's fourth triple of the night made the score 54-35 with 3:30 left. She finished 4-8 from distance. Consecutive 3-pointers from Roberson and Agnes Emma-Nnopu staked TCU to its first 20-point lead of the night two minutes later at 60-39.
TCU outscored USF 24-5 in the fourth. Prince collected eight of her rebounds in the period. The lead first reached 30 at 73-43 with 7:14 to play via five unanswered points from Van Lith. Seven of TCU's final nine points came via its second unit as Campbell emptied the bench.
The Horned Frogs connected at a season-best 61 percent (17-288) second half shooting clip.
All five of TCU's starters dished out at least two assists.
