Frogs return to action with two matches
FORT WORTH – The spring portion of the 2023-24 TCU rifle season is set to get underway with a pair of home matches starting Sunday. The Horned Frogs will host Ohio State and Air Force on Sunday followed by a dual match against the Buckeyes on Monday. Both matches are slated to begin at 8 a.m. at the TCU Rifle Range.
The Horned Frogs put together another solid fall season and boast the second-highest NCAA Tournament qualification score (4,741.33). Collectively, the group boasts the second-highest aggregation average in the nation at 4,736.28. The Frogs have fired seven of the top 20 aggregate scores in the country.
TCU leads the nation in air rifle average at 2,385.14 while sitting second in smallbore 2,351.14. The Frogs have the best match air rifle score (2,390) and own six of the top 15 match scores. The Frogs have also shot four of the top 15 smallbore marks this season.
Individually, the trio of Stephanie Grundsoee, Jeanne Haverhill and Katie Zaun have served as counters in every match this season. Stephanie Allan, Mikole Hogan and Anne White have also seen significant time as counters. Grundsoee (1,188.48; 597.33) and Zaun (1,187.57; 597.29) are second and third nationally in aggregate and air rifle average.
Zaun and Grundsoee have combined to fire the top four individual aggregate marks this season. Allan remains the only shooter in the NCAA to fire a perfect 600 in air rifle.
Air Force holds the eighth and final spot in the NCAA Tournament qualification score, just ahead of Ohio State in ninth. The Falcons rank sixth nationally in aggregate average (4,715.29), while Ohio State is ninth (4,703.63). Viktor Kiss paces the Buckeyes with an aggregate average of 1,181.75, while Lauren Hurley is the top shooter for Air Force with a season average of 1,179.79.
