Six Frogs finish in the top 10
FORT WORTH – Six Horned Frogs finished in the top 10 as the TCU women's rifle squad took first in the three-team match, firing a team score of 4,736. The Frogs shot the top marks in smallbore (2,352) and air rifle (2,384).
Stephanie Grundsoee and Katie Zaun led the way in the match, firing identical marks in both disciplines (591 smallbore; 598 air rifle). Jeanne Haverhill (1,179) and Nina Schuett (1,179) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, while Stephanie Allan (1,175) and Mikole Hogan (1,175) rounded out the top 10.
TCU produced five of the top seven scores in smallbore. Grundsoee and Zaun were two of three shooters to eclipse the 590 mark, each firing a 591. Haverhill and Hogan contributed a score of 585. Not factoring into the final team score was Nina Schuett, who fired a 585.
In air rifle, the Frogs boasted five of the top 10 marks. Led by 598s from Grundsoee and Zaun, TCU's final two team score contributions came from Haverhill (594) and Allan (594). Schuett fired a 594 but did not factor into the final score.
Anne White returned to the firing line after missing the final four matches of the fall with an injury. She fired a 578 in smallbore and a 589 in air rifle for an aggregate mark of 1,167.
Kaylynn Slaughter set a career-high with a 574 in smallbore. She added a 581 in air rifle to produce a career-high 1,155 aggregate mark. Gianna Yokoe fired a season-high 584 in air rifle. Combined with her 571 in smallbore, Yokoe set a career-high in aggregate mark with a 1,155.
Air Force finished second on the day, shooting a 2,335 in smallbore and 2,373 in air rifle for a team score of 4,708. The Falcons were led by Morgan Kreb's fourth place finish. She fired a 588 in smallbore and a 594 in air rifle.
Ohio State rounded out the field with a 2,329 in smallbore and a 2,370 in air rifle for a final tally of 4,699. Viktor Kiss led the Buckeyes in both disciplines. His 592 in smallbore was tops in the match, while his 596 in air rifle was third.
TCU and Ohio State will wrap up the busy weekend with dual match on Monday. Sighting will begin at 8 a.m. at the TCU Rifle Range.
