Horned Frogs excel in all three phases of the game

FORT WORTH -- Chandler Morris totaled 299 yards of offense and three touchdowns, while the TCU defense was stout again in a 34-17 victory over SMU on Saturday afternoon in Amon G. Carter Stadium.

TCU held its opponent without an offensive touchdown for nearly 10 quarters before SMU reached the end zone with 2:54 left in the first half. The Mustangs' other touchdown came with 1:47 remaining in the game.

Leading 14-10 at the break, TCU scored on its first three possessions of the second half to take control of the game. After Griffin Kell field goals of 35 and 24 yards, Emani Bailey had a 24-yard scoring run to give the Horned Frogs a 27-10 lead with 1:54 to play in the third quarter.

Bailey's team-best 126 yards rushing gave him his third 100-yard game in four contests this season. Morris completed 23-of-32 passes for 261 yards and a career-best three touchdowns with no interceptions while adding 38 yards rushing on six carries.

Trailing 3-0, TCU took a 14-3 lead with 6:58 to play in the first half on a pair of Morris touchdown passes of 9 and 2 yards to Jared Wiley. The TCU tight end tied a career-high with his team-best five receptions for 37 yards.

The first Morris to Wiley score came with 16 seconds left in the first quarter. Two plays earlier, JP Richardson had a 2-yard rush to convert a 4th-and-1 at the SMU 16. The drive was also kept alive by a 14-yard completion from Morris to Jaylon Robinson on a 3rd-and-14 at midfield.

Wiley's second scoring grab, a 2-yard catch, was set up by the TCU defense as Jamoi Hodge and Shad Banks Jr. combined on a 5-yard tackle for loss when SMU went for it on a 4th-and-2 at the TCU 27. The Horned Frogs then responded with their 10-play, 68-yard drive.
