Horned Frogs' 10-game winning streak in Big 12 regular-season play snapped
The Horned Frogs, who had won three in a row, saw their 10-game winning streak in Big 12 regular-season play come to an end. It coincided with the arrival of Sonny Dykes as head coach and tied for 11th-longest in conference history.
A 49-yard field by West Virginia's Michael Hayes with 9:31 to play provided the winning score. The Horned Frogs' final two series went into West Virginia territory but did not produce points.
With the game tied at 21-21 early in the fourth quarter, TCU's defense came up with a goal-line stand. Zach Marcheselli and Tymon Mitchell combined on a tackle for a 1-yard loss on a West Virginia rushing attempt on a 4th-and-goal at the 1. The Mountaineers were 1-of-3 on fourth-down attempts with TCU opponents now 4-of-14 on the season.
After forcing a 3-and-out on the game's opening series, it took TCU only four plays to go up 7-0 as Chandler Morris connected with JP Richardson on a 59-yard touchdown pass just 2:45 into the contest. Richardson joined Josh Doctson as the only players in TCU football history to score a touchdown for and against the Horned Frogs. Richardson found the end zone for Oklahoma State versus TCU last season.
TCU regained a 14-7 advantage on the first play of the second quarter on a 31-yard keeper by Morris into the end zone.
Morris finished with 349 yards of total offense while accounting for three touchdowns, including a 36-yard strike to Dylan Wright with 24 seconds left in the second quarter to give TCU a 21-14 halftime lead.
