Connor shot 94 percent at the foul line and 37 percent from distance last season
FORT WORTH – TCU women's basketball head coach Mark Campbell went back to the well with his newest addition to the program's 2023-2024 roster.
The Horned Frogs announced the signing of Arizona transfer guard Madison Connor on Friday.
Connor played two-and-a-half seasons for the Wildcats from 2021-2023. She helped Arizona finish as the NCAA Tournament national runner-up in 2021 after arriving in Tucson as a mid-year enrollee. Connor made 60 appearances over the last two years, establishing herself as one of the nation's elite sharpshooters. Last season, she knocked down 45-48 attempts (93.8 percent) from the foul line while shooting 37.2 percent from distance.
She has three years of eligibility remaining with the COVID-19 Automatic Waiver.
Connor's impending arrival in Fort Worth reunites her with a pair of familiar faces. She joins Sedona Prince, whom Connor lined up opposite during her tenure at Oregon, as one of two Pac-12 transfers Campbell has landed. Connor was also teammates with TCU senior guard Tara Manumaleuga in 2021 at Ariaona during the Wildcats' run to the NCAA Championship.
At 5-11, Connor is a natural wing but proved she can play multiple spots if needed during the 2022-2023 campaign. Injuries to the Wildcats' frontcourt forced Connor to play the three and four. Her production improved across the board despite playing out of position.
Connor suited up in all 32 games, averaging a career-best 5.8 points per game to pair with her career-high marks in three-point and free throw percentage. She scored in double figures nine times. All-but-one of her double-digit outputs came in Pac-12 play. Perhaps her most memorable offensive performance came against Oregon on Jan. 8, when she poured in 16 points in as many minutes off the bench in 79-71 victory over the 18th-ranked Ducks. Connor went 3-3 from downtown and knocked down 7-7 attempts at the charity stripe in the win. She scored a career-best 22 points behind a career-high five three-pointers in a win over California Baptist on Nov. 25.
Connor did not attempt the minimum number of foul shots to be eligible for inclusion in NCAA statistical rankings. Had she been eligible, her 93.8 percent clip would have been tied for first among all Division I players. Her three-point field goal percentage was a team-high and ranked 12th in the Pac-12.
As a true freshman in 2021-2022, Connor carved out a consistent role in the Wildcats' rotation. She averaged 12.2 minutes per game across 28 contests to help steer Arizona to a No. 4 seed and the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Conner finished second on the team in made three-point field goals (33) and was again automatic at the line, draining 15-17 free throws (88.2 percent).
Originally from Chandler, Arizona, Connor was graded as a four-star talent coming out of high school. She was tabbed the No. 33 overall prospect in the class of 2021 by ProspectsNation.com and the nation's No. 71 recruit by ESPN.com.
She played her first three prep seasons at Perry High School before spending her final high school semester at Compass Prep. Connor averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and over three assists per game while shooting 40 percent from long range her junior year, leading Perry to the 2020 6A Arizona State semifinals.
TCU women's basketball anticipates announcing additional newcomers to the Horned Frogs' roster in the coming weeks.
