Frogs Exterminate the Spiders 6-1
Fort Worth: Mercedes Aristegui makes history in the Frogs' 6-1 win over the Richmond Spiders on Monday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frog captain came into the match with a career win total of 98. With a 2-0 performance against the Spiders, Mercedes eclipsed the century mark for her career. She guided her team with commanding performances in singles and doubles play handing Richmond their eighth loss of the year.
The start of the match saw two Horned Frog doubles teams garner victories. Destinee Martins and Tiphanie Lemaitre have continued to gel throughout the spring. The duo defeated Elizabeth Novak and Lara Bakhaya in a commanding 6-2 fashion. Aristegui and Jade Otway have proven to be the Horned Frogs best doubles team taking down Andrea Campodonico and Marta Buendia of Richmond 6-4 giving the Frogs an early 1-0 lead.
Aristegui breezed by Leoner Oliveira in her first set 6-1. The gr. Senior kept the pedal down in the second set with a 6-0 sweep giving the Frogs a 2-0 lead.
Yu-Chin Tsai tallied her fifth win of the season and her second on court No. 4. She has seen early success in her collegiate career and continued against the Spiders. The freshman served a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lara Bakhaya for the third point.
With a commanding lead the match was clinched when sophomore Helena Narmont capped off a tough 6-4, 6-4 match on court No. 5 ending the Spiders hopes of a victory.
Destinee Martins rubbed some salt on the wound her second win of the season on court No. 2 7-6, 6-3.
Lastly, Margaret Polk down a set and struggling in the second, down 1-4. The senior found her stroke last in the second set ultimately coming out on top 7-5. In the third set tiebreaker, Polk scored the first seven points ultimately clinching point six for her team on court six 10-3.
