Horned Frogs close out regular season in dominant fashion
BOULDER, Colo. – Looking for a rebound after a heartbreaking loss, the 20th-ranked TCU women's tennis team dominated Colorado, 4-0, on Saturday at the Meadows Club.
After coming from behind in doubles play by winning two straight courts to win the doubles point, singles play was all TCU (17-3, 10-3 Big 12). The Frogs dropped one set in their six matchups, as the match was controlled from first serve to the clinching point.
With her win today, Cayetana Gay finished the regular season a perfect 13-0 in dual singles matches. An incredible 11 of those came during Big 12 matches, as the sophomore was a dominant piece at the bottom of the singles lineup.
Raquel Caballero Chica has won six of her last seven completed singles showdowns, as the junior is hitting stride at the perfect time as the season begins to wind down. Victoria Gomez O'Hayon was able to get back into the win column as well, clinching the match for TCU and adding another competitive dynamic to the depth-filled singles lineup.
With 10 wins during conference play, TCU has recorded its most wins as a member of the Big 12 in program history. The last time the Frogs secured 10 or more conference wins was during the 2009 dual season, when the squad went 10-1 in the Mountain West.
The Frogs are slated to finish inside the top three of the league, which marks a remarkable jump after placing eighth at the conclusion of last season.
DOUBLES RUNDOWN
TCU faced adversity at the start of doubles play, but that would be the only time throughout the duration of the match that the Frogs would come across it.
After the Buffaloes earned a win on court one, Caballero Chica and Jennifer Jackson responded with a 6-3 showing against Lani Brotman and Aya El Sayed.
Tomi Main and Gay, in a competitive matchup on court three, grinded out a 7-5 victory to give TCU the early lead and help set up the eventual sweep.
