Conner and Prince tally game-high 15 points apiece
FORT WORTH – The 3-pointer proved itself a reoccurring gift for the Horned Frogs once more on Sunday in Schollmaier Arena.
TCU drained a dozen deep balls and shot 47 percent from distance in a wire-to-wire 68-51 defeat of Lamar.
Six players made at least one 3-pointer for the Horned Frogs (11-0), who tied the longest winning streak in program history with the win.
Madison Conner finished 5-9 from behind the arc and matched Sedona Prince with a game-high 15 points.
TCU had four players score in double figures for the second consecutive game and fourth time this season. Una Jovanovic contributed 13 points of her own while Agnes Emma-Nnopu tallied 11 – all of which came in the second half.
Both Conner and Emma-Nnopu pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds.
The Horned Frogs never trailed outside of a brief 4-2 first quarter hole. TCU then held Lamar (5-4) without a field goal for more than seven minutes on its way to a double-digit lead. Conner canned consecutive 3-pointers at the 4:20 mark of the period to put TCU in front 10-4. Aaliyah Roberson (four points, four rebounds) buried a look from the left key with 30 seconds remaining and widened TCU's advantage to 17-6 entering the second frame.
TCU held Lamar to 3-21 shooting from the field over the opening 10 minutes. The Horned Frogs deviated from their usual man-to-man defense in favor of a 2-3 zone.
The alignment switch paid dividends. TCU limited Lamar to 31 percent (21-68) from the field and a 4-23 clip on 3-pointers.
Three more TCU long balls, including two on back-to-back possessions by Conner and Tara Manumaleuga, gave the Horned Frogs their largest lead of the first half at 26-12 with 6:41 on the clock.
Lamar cut TCU's advantage down to 31-27 six minutes later. The Cardinals scored 12 of their 15 points in the paint in that span.
The Horned Frogs never allowed their guests to get within two possessions the rest of the way.
Conner opened the second half with her third triple of the game. A trio of free throws from Prince and a three from Jovanovic restored TCU's double-digit advantage at 42-30. Owens capped a 10-2 Horned Frog run that increased the edge to 46-32.
Emma-Nnopu scored nine of her 11 points – all of which came via the deep ball – in the final frame as TCU gradually wore down the Cardinals.
Owens dished out a game-high 10 assists. She is averaging an identical amount over TCU's last four wins. The performance marked the sixth time in her career and third this season she has reached double figures in dimes.
Conner chipped in five assists of her own.
TCU assisted on 75-percent-or-more of its field goals for the third straight game and sixth time in 2023-24. The Horned Frogs were credited with an assist on 21-26 (81 percent) of their makes.
