
TCU Falls in Five to Iowa State

FORT WORTH – The Horned Frogs fell in five sets to Iowa State on Friday night in Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
Melanie Parra tallied a team-leading 19 kills with 10 digs, while Jalyn Gibson added 14 kills and recorded a career-high 20 digs in the loss.
The Rundown
The Frogs got off to a slow start with Iowa State jumping out on a 4-0 lead. An Audrey Nalls kill broke the Cyclone scoring streak and TCU responded well to keep the score close as the Frogs tied the set on eight separate occasions.
The Frogs took their first lead of the set after a Nalls ace gave TCU a 22-21 edge, but TCU was outscored 4-1 in the final points to give Iowa State the 25-23 set win.
TCU started strong and built a comfortable 9-2 lead in set two after a block by Brianna Green and Lily Nicholson. TCU remained ahead until Iowa State went on a 6-0 scoring run to take a 13-11 lead. The Cyclones maintained the lead until a kill from Melanie Parra tied the contest up at 17-all.
The rest of the set was a back-and-forth nailbiter, with the Frogs taking a 26-25 lead from Parra's eighth kill of the night. Tied at 26, Nalls recorded back-to-back kills to clinch the 28-26 set win.
Set three was an even battle the entirety of the set as the score was tied 13 different times. Jalyn Gibson tallied five kills in the third set, including the point that tied the score up at 15-15. With the Frogs leading 21-20, three Cyclone errors and a kill apiece for Parra and Gibson earned the Frogs another set win and secured the match lead at 2-1.
The Cyclones won the fourth set 25-18 to force the five-set contest. With the set tied at 10-10, a successful challenge by TCU awarded Parra an ace and gave the Frogs an 11-10 lead. Nalls landed a kill that put TCU up 13-12, but the Cyclones went on a 3-0 scoring run to win the fifth set 15-13.
