
Rifle Turns In Solid Performance In Spring Opener

TCU fires a team score of 4,750
FORT WORTH – The No. 1 ranked TCU women's rifle team opened the spring campaign with a solid performance on the range against No. 11 Ohio State. The Horned Frogs matched the fourth-best mark in program history, shooting a team score of 4,750.
TCU put together a strong team performance in smallbore, firing the fourth-best score in program history, 2,362. All five counters in air rifle fired a 595 or better, putting together a team score of 2,388 to match the fourth-best score in school history.
In smallbore, the Frogs produced eight of the top 10 scores. Julie Johannessen's career-best 597 paced all shooters. Stephanie fired 590 to finish third. Abigail Gordon (588) and Katie Zaun (588) rounded out the top five.
Mikole Hogan, while not serving as a counter, shot a personal-best 591 in the discipline to finish second. Kristen Hemphill and Nina Schuett fired identical marks of 582 and Grace Taschuk rounded out the top 10 with a 579.
A similar performance in air rifle saw the Frogs fire the top seven scores in the discipline and 10 of the top 11. Grundosee and Gordon fired the top marks in the match as each shot a 598. Johannessen sat right behind them with a 597. Zaun and Hemphill's 595s rounded out the top five. Stephanie Allan (594), Anne White (594), Tashcuk (589) and Schuett (589) finished in the top 10.
Six of the top shooters overall in the match were Horned Frogs. Johannessen (1,193) led all shooters. Grundsoee (1,188) sat second followed by Gordon (1,186), Zaun (1,183), Hogan (1,179) and Hemphill (1,177)
Ohio State fired a team score of 4,672 (2,320 smallbore; 2,352 air rifle). The Buckeyes were led by Derek Keiser (586) in smallbore and Viktor Kiss in air rifle (593).
TCU and Ohio State will square off again on Monday in the Frogs' final home match of the season. Sighting for smallbore will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the TCU Rifle Range.
