Horned Frogs set to host Ohio State for two matches
FORT WORTH – After a nearly two month hiatus, the No. 1 ranked TCU women's rifle team is set to return to action. The Horned Frogs will host Ohio State for a pair of matches Sunday and Monday at the TCU Rifle Range. Both matches are slated to begin at approximately 8:30 a.m.
The Horned Frogs had a fantastic start to the campaign, finishing atop the scoreboard in all seven matches they shot. TCU has fired two of the top three marks in the NCAA this season, including an NCAA record 4,758 at Navy in its first match of the season.
TCU is second nationally in aggregate average at 4,738.72. The Frogs boast the top air rifle average (2,832.29) and sit second in smallbore (2,355.43).
Stephanie Grundsoee (1,189.6) and Julie Johannessen (1,187.2) sit second and third nationally, respectively, in season aggregate aveage, while Abby Gordon (1,185.0) sits eighth. The Frogs have four of the top nine air rifle shooters in the NCAA led by Grundsoee (4th, 597.2). Kristen Hemphill sits seventh (596.14) followed by Katie Zaun (596.0) and Johannessen (595.8). In smallbore, the Frogs own three of the top five shooters led by the national leader Grundsoee (592.4). Johannessen sits fourth (591.3) and Gordon fifth (590.3).
Ohio State enters the spring campaign ranked No. 11. The Buckeyes boast a season average of 4,680.67 (2,325.67 Smallbore; 2,356.00 air rifle). Their top shooter is Viktor Kiss who leads the squad in both air rifle (590.88) and smallbore (587.88) average.
