Zaun fires career-high in smallbore
FORT WORTH – No. 1 TCU completed the two match sweep of Ohio State with another strong performance Monday at the TCU Rifle Range. The Horned Frogs fired a team score of 4,741 en route to the victory. Katie Zaun set a career-high with a 593 in smallbore and a 1,188 aggregate mark.
The Horned Frogs fired a team score of 2,355 in smallbore, tied for the seventh-best mark in program history. All five counters fired a 592 or better in air rifle, culminating in a team score of 2,386 in the discipline.
TCU produced nine of the top 10 aggregate marks led by Julie Johannessen's 1,190. Following Zaun's career-high 1,188 was Stephanie Grundsoee (1,184). Stephanie Allan fired a season-best aggregate of 1,182 to finish fourth.
TCU owned eight of the top 10 smallbore scores on the day. The match's top mark came from Zaun as she fired a career-high 593. It was the first time in her career she eclipsed the 590 mark in smallbore. Johannessen fired a 592 to finish second, followed by Grundsoee's 587 in third. Allan fired a 585 to sit fifth, followed by Kristen Hemphill and Nina Schuett who shot identical marks of 583.
In air rifle, the Frogs dominated the field, firing 10 of the top 12 marks. Johannessen led all shooters with a 598. She was followed by Grundsoee and Allan, who each shot a 597. Hemphill (596) and Zaun (596) also contributed to the team score.
Anne White (595), Mikole Hogan (594), Grace Taschuk (594) and Abby Gordon (592) rounded out the top 10.
TCU will hit the road for a Saturday tilt at Nebraska.
