Brown elevated to associate head coach
FORT WORTH – TCU head women's basketball coach Raegan Pebley announced a trio of staff changes this week. Associate coach Britney Brown has been elevated to associate head coach, while Pebley also announced the addition of two new coaches, Taja Edwards and Rodney Hill. Edwards will serve as the team's assistant head coach, while Hill was named assistant coach for the Horned Frogs.
"My relationship with Taja has spanned over a decade," Pebley said. "I've watched her grow from an elite competitor into an elite coach. She has diligently grown in her knowledge of the game by intentionally surrounding herself with high character winners as well as innovators. Her values align with TCU's passion for developing leaders, as well as a personal commitment to the overall experience of our student athletes.
"We are so excited to have Rodney back at TCU. He is part of the Frog Fam and has stayed close to the program for years. His passion for the game and for fostering transformational relationships is tireless. He has learned from and partnered with, some of our game's best in developing talent at the collegiate level, as well as the grass roots."
Edwards makes the move to Fort Worth after serving as manager of basketball operations and player development for both the Charlotte Hornets and Greensboro Swarm. During her time in the state of North Carolina, Edwards managed the day-to-day operations, which included planning and coordination within the department. She also formulated written G-League scouting and player evaluation reports to the Hornets front office.
Edwards' other coaching experience includes two years serving as the offensive coordinator and director of recruiting at Loyola Marymount from 2019-21. Prior to her time in Los Angeles, Edwards served as the defensive coordinator and director of recruiting for Dartmouth from 2017-19.
Edwards' other coaching stops include serving as regional recruiting coordinator at USC (2014-17), a post player developmental coach at Cal State Fullerton (2013-14) and assistant coach/video coordinator at Mississippi (2012-13).
Edwards was a four-year letterwinner at Fresno State from 2007-11, where she helped guide the Bulldogs to 98 overall wins and four-consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. She was part of three regular-season and WAC Championships, as well as three different WAC Tournament Championships.
"It is an honor to have the opportunity to coach at TCU," Edwards said. "TCU women's basketball is a program that excels at an elite level, on and off the court. The investment in personal relationships from coach Pebley and her staff extends beyond athletics, and aligns with my personal mission in life; add value wherever you go, serve others and grow. I am looking forward to this amazing journey in continuing to grow and foster the women's game."
Hill makes a return to TCU where he served as coach Pebley's video coordinator during the 2015-16 season. Prior to his first stint with the Horned Frogs, Hill served as a graduate assistant coach at Urbana University in 2014-15. Following a year in Fort Worth, Hill then made his way to the WNBA, serving as assistant director of operations for the Dallas Wings in the summer of 2016.
Hill earned his first fulltime coaching gig as an assistant coach at Texas State in 2016-17. From there, he went onto become the head junior varsity coach and varsity assistant coach at Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas from 2017-19. His next collegiate coaching stop came at Lamar, where he served as the team's recruiting coordinator from 2019-20.
For the past two seasons, Hill has served as head coach for SA Finest. He was responsible for coordination and execution of practice plans under program director Ray Caldwell and was inspirational in guiding the 2021 3SSB 17U team to a national championship.
"I am extremely humbled and grateful to be welcomed back to this prestigious university," Hill said. "Coach Pebley is one of the best coaches that I've ever been around in my career, but she's an even better person. Her willingness to serve her team and her staff is what made the decision to return a "no brainer" for me. I'm excited to partner with coach Pebley and the rest of our staff to serve this amazing university and our amazing student-athletes."
Brown, who has served as TCU's associate coach the past three seasons, makes the jump to associate head coach in her seventh season with the Horned Frogs. Brown made her way to TCU in 2016 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
The former Oklahoma Sooner has helped guide the Horned Frogs to nearly 100 wins over the past six seasons, which included a pair of postseason runs to the WNIT semifinals. She has also worked primarily with TCU's guards, which includes a pair of All-Big 12 selections in Kianna Ray and Lauren Heard. Ray was an all-conference selection in 2020, while Heard was a three-time honoree from 2020-22. Heard would go onto break TCU's all-time scoring record with 2,006 career points.
"I appreciate the opportunity that TCU and coach Pebley have given me," Brown said. "I am filled with gratitude and look forward to continuing to serve this program, both on and off the court. I am thankful for the past and I am looking forward to the future under coach Pebley's leadership. We want to create an experience for student-athletes that will help them prevail as leaders now and in the future, due to the experience they gain while being apart of our program.
