TCU Men’s Tennis Receives No. 1 National Seed for the First Time in School History
FORT WORTH -- No. 1 TCU men's tennis has been selected as the No. 1 national seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Horned Frogs earned a selection in the 64-team field for the seventh consecutive season and the 32nd time in program history. TCU will host a regional round against Drake on Friday, May 6 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
FORT WORTH REGIONAL
No. 1 TCU vs. Drake – May 6
Utah vs. Ole Miss – May 6
Regional Championship – May 7
"Getting the No. 1 seed, it's really a reflection of all the hard work that these guys have put in this season," Head Coach David Roditi said "It shows that it's been a great season. They did a great job in indoor season, winning Indoor Nationals, and then taking care of business in the Big 12. So many teams could have been No. 1, it just means that, results wise, we did a really good job, but that's all it means. Once we start playing, the seeds are all out the window. But it's nice to say we get to be a No. 1 seed and get to play at home, hopefully three times. That should be a really special experience for all of us."
The Horned Frogs have extended their postseason streak to seven seasons (not counting 2020), the second longest in program history behind the 16-year streak from 1991-2006.
FROG FOCUS
The Horned Frogs enter the NCAA Tournament after securing their fifth Big 12 regular season championship in the last six completed seasons, posting a perfect, 5-0, record throughout conference play. TCU tied a program record for the most regular season wins (22) this century, tying the mark set back in 2016. It is the most regular season victories since the 1989 season.
TCU was prominently featured in the postseason Big 12 conference awards. Head Coach David Roditi was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the fourth time in the past seven seasons, Juan Carlos Aguilar became the first Horned Frog to earn Newcomer of the Year and a program record six student-athletes were awarded all-conference honors. Luc Fomba, Juan Carlos Aguilar and Sander Jong were awarded First Team Singles honors while Jake Fearnley was named to the Second Team Singles list. In doubles, Fomba and Fearnley were named to the First Team with Jong and Lui Maxted earning Second Team honors.
TCU will host the Fort Worth Regional this weekend, with the hopes of hosting a Super-Regional match the following week for a chance at traveling to Champaign, Illinois for the NCAA Quarterfinals later this month.
