For the first time in program history, the Horned Frogs will play for the conference title.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- No. 2 TCU beach volleyball (38-2) defeated No. 4 Florida State by a 3-2 score Friday afternoon to secure its place in the CCSA Conference Championship in Huntsville, Ala. This marks the first time in program history that the Horned Frogs have earned a spot in the Conference Championship match.
"It was a great day for the Horned Frogs," Head Coach Hector Gutierrez said. "This was the first time we reached the conference finals. It's a great feeling and we have been working all year for this moment. We are really excited and looking forward to the finals tomorrow. The girls showed a lot of mental toughness in the game today because playing against FSU is never easy. You can see how we have grown throughout the year, and we have prepared for this moment. We have one more game tomorrow. We don't know who we are going to play but we are ready, we are ready for whoever comes, and we are ready to win it all."
TCU remained the only undefeated team in this year's tournament with their 3-2 victory over last year's defending champion, FSU.
Three Frog pairings remain perfect throughout the course of the tournament: Daniela Alvarez/Tania Moreno, Sutton MacTavish/Kaylie McHugh and Alexis Filippone/Hailey Brockett. Alvarez and Moreno have taken straight set victories over both No. 1 pairings from Tulane and Florida State for an average margin of victory of 5.5 points. MacTavish and McHugh secured the Frogs place in the Conference Championship with their three-set victory at the No. 2 spot. Filippone and Brockett have been key contributors in both matches, clinching the match over Tulane and tying the match with FSU.
