Horned Frogs Home Winning Streak is Snapped at Eight Matches
FORT WORTH -- TCU women's tennis (8-4) suffered its first home defeat of the 2022 season on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Memphis, 4-1, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU won the doubles point with convincing wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings but couldn't carry the momentum into singles play, bringing the home winning streak to an end at eight matches.
The Frogs got off to a great start in doubles, as the No. 2 pairing of Mercedes Aristegui and Isabel Pascual rattled off five straight games before winning their match, 6-1. On court three, Alisa Soloveva and Jade Otway got out to a 4-0 lead before holding serve for a 6-2 result. This was the ninth doubles point of the season for TCU, all coming on the purple courts.
It was Pascual's team-leading seventh doubles win of the season. She is now 7-2 in doubles matches, playing with three different partners, and 2-1 when paired with Aristegui.
The Horned Frogs are now 18-3 in doubles matches on the purple courts this season and have won their last seven in a row.
In single play, Soloveva showed her grit, coming back from down 3-6, 0-5, to win the next six games of her second set, eventually taking the tiebreak, 7-5, to force a third. She wouldn't be able to complete her match as Memphis clinched the dual on court six before her third set was concluded.
The loss drops TCU's home record to 8-1 this season, with a chance to get back into the win column on Sunday, against No. 41 UC-Santa Barbara, at 11:30 a.m.
