
TCU Comes Up Short vs. No. 29 UCSB

TCU begins Big 12 conference play this week
FORT WORTH – TCU women's tennis (8-5) dropped its final non-conference match before the beginning of Big 12 Conference play on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The Horned Frogs battled hard before ultimately falling to No. 29 UC Santa Barbara (8-5), 5-2.
TCU lost the doubles point after being unable to hold serve late in the matches, falling behind 1-0, heading in singles play. It was the first time TCU has lost a doubles point at home this season.
Alisa Soloveva and Isabel Pascual recorded victories to give TCU its two points, but UCSB managed to win on the other four courts, resulting in the fifth loss of the season and dropping TCU's home record to 8-2 this season.
TCU battled back in singles play, winning three first sets from Soloveva, Pascual and Mercedes Aristegui. But the momentum couldn't be carried into the second sets as UCSB claimed a quick win at No. 4 to go in front, 2-0. Soloveva closed out her match at No. 1 to make it 2-1, before UCSB claimed another straight set victory at No. 5 to re-establish its two-point lead, 3-1, while the remaining three matches had entered a third set.
The Gauchos collected the first win among the three three-setters, clinching the dual with a point from court three while Pascual and Aristegui battled, on serve. Pascual won her super-set tiebreaker, 10-5, at No. 6 to give TCU its second point before UCSB closed out the match with a win at No. 2 to bring the day to a close.
