National Champion TCU Men’s Tennis Host No. 20 Michigan to Begin Outdoor Season
FORT WORTH -- No. 1 TCU men's tennis (12-1) begins its title defense this Wednesday at 1 p.m. when the Horned Frogs host Michigan (5-2) outdoors at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU is coming off its first National Championship after winning the ITA Indoor Team National Championships last Monday, in Seattle, Wash.
The Horned Frogs are looking to join an elite group of teams that have won both indoor and outdoor national titles in the same season. The last to accomplish this was Wake Forrest in 2018, also Virginia (2017 & 2013), USC (2012), Georgia (2007), Illinois (2003) and Stanford (2000) this century.

TCU begins the 2022 outdoor season ranked No. 1 in the USTA/Tennis Channel poll for the first time in program history. The Horned Frogs are on a 10-match winning streak dating back to January 16. During that streak, the Frogs have defeated seven Top 20 opponents, including then No. 1-ranked Ohio State in the semifinals of Indoor Nationals.
Sander Jong, fresh off of being named Most Outstanding Player of Indoor Nationals and Big 12 Player of the Week, leads the Frogs with 18 overall victories, nine in singles and nine in doubles. He won both is doubles and singles matches in the final three rounds of TCU's national championship run in Seattle.
TCU has three singles players in the Top 25 and three doubles pairings in the Top 15, both program records. Jake Fearnley achieved his career-best singles ranking of No. 23, behind No. 14 Luc Fomba and No. 16 Juan Carlos Aguilar. This was the 17th consecutive iteration of the ITA singles rankings that have featured Fomba and Aguilar, dating back to the preseason 2019 rankings.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Michigan enters the dual with a 5-2 record. The Wolverines fell to No. 10 Wake Forest in the opening round of the ITA Weekend Kickoff, 4-3, to miss out on qualifying for Indoor Nationals. The only other ranked opponent Michigan has faced this season was No. 19 Harvard, suffering a 4-3 loss to them as well.
