Pedro Vives goes 2-0 in Dual Debut
FORT WORTH – No. 4 TCU men's tennis (6-1) collected its second ranked win of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 15 Ole Miss (7-1), 4-3, inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Freshman Pedro Vives clinched the dual for TCU, winning both his doubles and singles matches, in his TCU debut.
"This was a great win for a lot of reasons," head coach David Roditi said. "We won an absolute battle against a highly ranked Ole Miss team that had qualified for Indoor Nationals, the same as us. We have a lot of respect for those coaches and players, they compete at a very high level. The guys were so gutsy today, getting through some physical challenges and putting themselves out there for the team. Pedro Vives stepped up big, playing in his first match for us. We put him in some huge moments and he showed a lot of heart to get us wins in doubles as well as singles. Overall, we played a tough match today and came out with the win. I'm very proud of them. And we won it at home in front of another great crowd. We have another huge weekend coming up, hosting Top 20 Mississippi State on Friday and Top 5 Virginia on Sunday. We'll have the tailgate ready, looking forward to seeing you all there. Go Frogs!"
The Horned Frogs clinched the dual at 4-0, winning the first three matches in singles play after winning the doubles point. Ole Miss went on to win two matches, gaining a third point via retirement, at No. 6.
In doubles action, both the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings were on serve, 3-3, when Ole Miss went up by a break on court one. With momentum in danger of shifting to the Rebels favor, both doubles duos won break points on their opponent's next service games, before holding serve and clinching TCU's seventh straight doubles point. Vives and Lui Maxted were the first to win, playing No. 2, with Juan Carlos Aguilar and Tim Ruehl clinching the point at No. 3.
