TCU hosts the ITA Weekend Kickoff against Wichita State, Tulsa and Portland
FORT WORTH -- No. 4 TCU men's tennis (3-1) hosts the ITA Weekend Kickoff this weekend (Sat.-Sun.) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU will play Portland on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. following a dual between Wichita State and Tulsa. The losing teams from the two Saturday matches will play at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, before the winning teams play for the right to enter the ITA National Indoor Championships, at 2 p.m.
The matches this weekend will be played indoors. All four matches are open to the public. Free pizza will be available while supplies last at both TCU matches, courtesy of Buffalo Bros.

TCU is hosting the ITA Weekend Kickoff for the seventh consecutive year. The Horned Frogs are hoping for their fourth-consecutive berth into the Indoor National Championships and the 19th overall appearance as a program.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a 4-1 victory over Abilene Christian on Thursday (Jan. 27). TCU established itself as a national championship contender with a 4-3 victory over then-No. 1 Florida earlier this season.
TCU has won all four doubles points this season, thanks to a pair of undefeated doubles teams. The No. 1 pairing of Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley are 3-0, including a victory over the 2021 ITA Doubles national champions from Tennessee earlier this year (Jan. 16). The No. 2 pairing of Sander Jong and Lui Maxted are 4-0 this season, winning all four of their matches by a combined score of 25-12.
In singles play, Fearnley paces all Frogs with a 4-0 record to start the season. He was named Big 12 player of the week after the first week of the season, when he clinched the match for TCU against Florida. Fearnley is riding an eight-match singles winning streak in regular season duals dating back to last season.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Portland Pilots will begin their 2022 season against TCU on Saturday. Portland comes into the weekend as the No. 4 seed after posting a 10-6 record last season out of the West Coast Conference. This will be the first-ever meeting between TCU and Portland.
Wichita State comes to Fort Worth as the No. 2 seed. The Shockers are 3-0 this season with a 7-0 victory over St. Louis and a pair of 6-1 victories over Oral Roberts and Purdue. TCU leads the all-time series against WSU, 9-3. TCU has won the last seven matches in the series with the last loss to WSU coming in 1984.
Tulsa will be the No. 3 seed this weekend. The Golden Hurricane enter the weekend with a 2-1 record, defeating Purdue and Illinois State and falling, 4-3, to California. TCU has played Tulsa every year for the last 10 seasons. The Horned Frogs lead the all-time series, 14-12, and have won seven of the last eight meetings.
