
TCU Splits Duals to Close Out Gamecock Grand Slam

Horned Frogs defeat three ranked opponents on the weekend for the second time this season and the second time in program history
Columbia, S.C. -- No. 9 TCU beach volleyball (17-4) extends its program record for ranked wins in a season to nine after splitting two matches at the Gamecock Grand Slam. The Horned Frogs fell to No. 2 Florida State, 4-1 before taking down No. 16 Stetson, 3-2. TCU finished the weekend with three ranked wins over No. 15 South Carolina, No. 16 Stetson and No. 17 Georgia State.
TCU took down three ranked opponents in a single weekend for just the second time in program history, the other coming in the opening weekend of this season.
QUICK HITS AGAINST NO. 2 FLORIDA STATE:
● Alvarez and Moreno scored the only point for TCU, winning in three sets, at the No. 1 position: 24-22, 28-30, 17-15.
● The win avenges the duo's loss earlier in the season to Florida State, a critical win that could prove to have a strong impact on the postseason possibilities for Alvarez/Moreno.
● The duo advances to 18-2 as a pair, with all matches played at the No. 1 position.
● The pair is now 1-1 in three set matches.
● The victory against FSU gives the spanish phenoms nine wins against ranked opponents in this season.
● Alvarez/Moreno extended their win streak to 10 matches, the longest by any Horned Frog pairing this season.
● This is the first time since 2018 that a TCU No. 1 pairing (Cassie House/Haven Hill) has beaten FSU's No. 1 pairing.

● The Horned Frogs clinched the match with three two-set victories before falling in three sets on four and retiring on one to defeat Stetson, 3-2.
● Westendorff and White scored the first point for TCU for the second time this season, winning in two sets, at the No. 5 position: 21-13, 21-16.
● The duo moves to 3-4.
● Scott and Gonzalez scored the second point for the Frogs, winning in two sets on court three: 21-15, 21-14.
● The No. 3 pairing improves to 14-4 on the season.
● Blackburn and Brocket secured the Horned Frog victory at the No. 2 position winning in two sets: 21-12, 21-15.
● They are now 17-2 as a pair, with all of their matches together coming on court two.
● TCU is now 1-1 against Stetson, vindicating their 3-2 loss to the Hatters in the first match of the 2021 season.
