Grundsoee takes home smallbore crown
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 TCU women's rifle team got its Patriot Rifle Conference title defense off to a solid start on Saturday, firing a team score of 2,340. The smallbore title in the fifth for the Horned Frogs. Stephanie Grundsoee finished atop the individual leaderboard with a 592.
After day one of competition, TCU holds a 23 point advantage over Air Force. The Falcons sit second after shooting a 2,317. Ohio State is third with a 2,311 and UTEP rounds out the field with a 2,237.
TCU claimed three of the top five scores in the match. Right behind Grundsoee was Elizabeth Marsh, who fired a 588 to finish second individually. Kristen Hemphill fired a 582 to finish fourth. Accounting for the final score in the team tally was Nina Schuett's 578. Grace Tashcuk fired a 579 and Abigail Gordon a 575 to round out TCU's match competitors.
Air Force was led by Morgan Kreb, who finished third with a score of 583. Ohio State was paced by Ariel Hall's 578 while UTEP's leading shooter was Isabel Brooks' 567.
TCU will look to complete its quest for the second straight and fifth overall PRC crown on Sunday with the air rifle portion of the competition. The Horned Frogs have previously won five air rifle conference titles. The match is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
