
Rifle Set To Host Air Force For Two Matches

Matches are the first at home this season
FORT WORTH – After a week's break from competition, the No. 1 TCU women's rifle team will return to action Thursday when they play host to Air Force. The Falcons will remain in town to take part in the NCAA qualifier on Saturday.
The NCAA qualifier will be the final score needed to determine the eight teams that will advance to the NCAA Tournament in March. The NCAA utilizes a four score average to select the field. The first three scores come from the regular season matches and all three must come from a different location. The fourth score is the qualifier score.
TCU has dominated its schedule this season, posting the top scores in all nine matches. The Frogs own the best three-score average in the NCAA (4,730). Overall on the season, TCU sits third nationally in aggregate score at 4,717. The Frogs are second nationally in air rifle (2,377) and third in smallbore (2,339).
Stephanie Grundsoee has been outstanding in her sophomore campaign. She has finished first in both disciplines in all but one match this season, that being in smallbore at Air Force when she finished two points behind teammate Elizabeth Marsh. She ranks second nationally in aggregate (1,189), first in air rifle (598.2) and second in smallbore (590.8).
Four other Horned Frogs are averaging a 590 or better in air rifle this season. Marsh ranks second (594) followed by Kristen Hemphill (593), Abigail Gordon (592) and Nina Schuett (590). In smallbore, Marsh (586) and Hemphill (585.1) are among the nationally leaders.
Air Force currently sits seventh in the NCAA three-score average at 4,692). On the year, the Falcons own a team aggregate average of 4,681.2. They are averaging scores of 2,361 in air rifle and 2,319 in smallbore. Peter Fiori is the Falcons top shooter in both disciplines. He is averaging a 593 in air rifle and a 584 in smallbore.
