Frogs snap season-high five-game winning streak

FORT WORTH – Chuck O'Bannon Jr. scored a career-high 18 points, but No. 6 Kansas' hot shooting was too much for TCU to overcome in a 93-64 loss on Tuesday inside Schollmaier Arena.

O'Bannon was 6-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and both were career highs for makes. The transfer from USC also recorded a team-high six rebounds. RJ Nembhard joined O'Bannon in double-figures for TCU (9-3, 2-2 Big 12) with 14 points and dished out a team-high six assists. Five players scored in double-figures for Kansas (9-2, 3-1 Big 12) , which shot a season-best 56.5 percent from the floor and outrebounded TCU 41-20.

Kansas made seven of its first 10 shots to jump out to a 17-8 lead through the first 5:45 of the contest. The Jayhawks continued their accurate shooting and wound up shooting 64.3 percent from floor in the first half. TCU trailed 49-35 at the half and was led by Chuck O'Bannon Jr., who scored a career-high 12 points in the first half alone.

The Jayhawks jumped out to a 10-2 run over the first 2:24 of the second half to expand their lead to 22 points. TCU struggled to mount a comeback in the closing minutes, shooting 32 percent over the final 11 minutes of the game, as Kansas sealed a 93-64 win.

TCU will host No. 2 Baylor (9-0, 2-0 Big 12) on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Team Notes
- TCU fell to 2-21 all-time against the Jayhawks, including an 1-9 record in Fort Worth.
- Twelve Frogs saw playing time. It was the third time this season 12 TCU players played in a game.
- TCU outscored Kansas' bench 32-21. The Frogs' 32 bench points were the most scored on the Jayhawks this season.
- The Horned Frogs had two steals in the contest, the fewest in a game since Feb. 15, 2020 in a 68-57 win at Kansas State when TCU also had two.
- TCU tied a season low with 20 rebounds. The Frogs had 20 boards in the loss to Providence on Dec. 9, 2020.
- The Frogs surrendered 90 points for the first time since Feb. 26, 2019 when they fell 104-96 at West Virginia in triple overtime. The last time TCU gave up 90 points in a game finished in regulation was Feb. 2, 2019 against Baylor (92 points).
- The Jayhawks shot 35-of-62 (56.5 percent) from the field, the most by a TCU opponent this season.
- The Horned Frogs wore their purple retro uniform for the first time since Feb. 15, 2020 against Kansas State and approved to 1-2 all-time when wearing the uniform.
- The Frogs started with the lineup of Mike Miles, RJ Nembhard, PJ Fuller, Kevin Easley Jr. and Kevin Samuel for the fourth time this season (3-1).

Individual Notes
- Chuck O'Bannon Jr. led TCU with career highs in points (18), field goals (six) and 3-pointers (four).
- RJ Nembhard scored 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, his ninth consecutive game scoring in double-figures.
- Nembhard also dished out a team-high six assists.
- Kevin Samuel added eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
- Samuel entered the game as the Big 12's leading rebounder and was held to zero rebounds for the first time in his career.
