
Bane Named Finalist for Jerry West Award

Senior guard ranks second in the Big 12 in scoring
FORT WORTH – TCU senior guard Desmond Bane was named a finalist for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award announced on Tuesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Named after Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor in its sixth year recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel narrowed down the watch list from 20 to just 10 candidates.
In March, five finalists will be presented to West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2020 Jerry West Award will be presented at The. College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, Calif. on April 10, 2020.
New to this year's program is the Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies. Starting on Friday, Feb. 7, fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite players on HoopHallAwards.com. The top five player selections on the fan vote will get an additional vote towards making the next round.
Bane, who was one of five on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 and the Oscar Robertson Trophy watch list is ranked at the top of several statistical categories.
The Richmond, Ind., native ranks second in the Big 12 in scoring at 16.3 points per game and has scored 20 or more points in a game seven times, including a season-high 30 points against George Mason. Bane's been extremely accurate from the field as he ranks second in the Big 12 and 12th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage at 44.4 percent and ranks fifth in the Big 12 in field goal percentage at 47.0 percent.
Bane and the Horned Frogs (13-8, 4-4) play at Oklahoma State (10-11, 0-8) Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
