
TCU Finishes Third at Conference Championships

Strong showing for the Frogs on the final day of competition
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The TCU swimming and diving team wrapped up its weekend at the Big 12 Conference Championships with third-place finishes on the men's and women's side.
It marked the best performance for the women at the conference meet since the 2012-13 season. They concluded the meet with 534 points and placed ahead of West Virginia and Iowa State. Additionally, a total of 19 different TCU athletes placed top eight in their respective events on the final day and earned honors on the podium.
Janis Silins had another impressive day for the Horned Frogs. He earned another silver medal and an NCAA B cut in the 200 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:54.63. His time also broke the school record in the event. He was joined on the podium by teammate Hugh McPherson for the second straight night. McPherson grabbed a fourth-place finish after posting a 1:57.35.
Kade Knoch dropped almost a second from his prelims time in the 200 backstroke. The sophomore touched the wall with a time of 1:44.22, the third-fastest in program history, and placed third overall in the event. Following him in fourth place was senior Radu Duican, swimming a 1:44.87. The two backstrokers earned NCAA B cuts with their swims.
Claire Munster also had a solid day for the women. The won a swim-off for the final spot in the A final, where she set a personal best time and placed sixth overall with a time of 50.08.
Connie Deighton had another great day on the boards. The sophomore from London, England, finished in seventh in the platform dive.
The women's 400 freestyle relay of Madie Sandberg, Munster, Claire Banic and Lucia Simovicova set a school record for the second straight night, turning in a time of 3:21.71. They finished the race in fourth overall.
