
Babic Wins Bronze on Day Two

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Dusan Babic's third-place finish in the men's 500 freestyle highlighted day two of competition for the swimming and diving program at the Big 12 Conference Championships.
Babic went head-to-head with the nation's best in the A final of the 500 freestyle. He swam a personal-best time of 4:23.26, earning an NCAA B-cut in the process. In the same heat were teammates Joao Andrade and Kevin Chao. The TCU swimmers all placed top-eight, with Andrade posting a 4:23.65 (fifth) and Chao finishing with a 4:29.01 (seventh).
Following a successful prelims session in the morning, seven Horned Frogs qualified for the A finals in their respective events.
Junior Sally Clough clocked a sixth-place finish in the women's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.56. Freshman Janis Silins turned in a time of 1:48.69 in his 200 IM and also placed sixth. Kiki Rice, 200 IM, and Rasmus Pedersen, 50 freestyle, both brought home eighth place finishes for TCU.
In the women's 1-meter diving, Izzy Ashdown qualified for the final and finished in eighth place with a score of 255.00. Teammate Connie Deighton competed in the consolation final and earned her NCAA Zone-cut with a score of 265.05.
The men capped the night off with a bronze medal in the 400 Medley Relay. The all-freshman squad of Pedersen, Silins, Piotr Sadlowski and Babic swam a 3:10.90 and broke the school record in the process, shaving just over a second off the previous mark.
Currently, the men sit in third place with 228 points. They are looking to close the gap with WVU (291). The women are in a tight battle with the Mountaineers as well, just four points back of third place.
Day three continues tomorrow morning with prelims at 10 a.m. EST and finals at 6 p.m. EST.
