Heard notches double-double in defeat
LUBBOCK, Texas – TCU senior Lauren Heard registered a double-double with season-highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Texas Tech Lady Raiders handed the Horned Frogs a 78-72 loss in Big 12 Conference play, Saturday afternoon at United Supermarkets Arena.
The loss drops TCU to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12, while Texas Tech moved to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
TURNING POINT
TCU led by as many as 16 points and took a 20-13 lead into the second quarter, but the Horned Frogs were outscored 18-16 and 20-14 in the second and third quarters, respectively, as Texas Tech took a one-point advantage into the fourth quarter, up 51-50. The Lady Raiders opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run and drained crucial free throws down the stretch to secure the home win. TCU limited Texas Tech to just 28 percent shooting from the floor in the first half, but the Lady Raiders would go onto shot 53, 50 and 40 percent over the final three quarters. Texas Tech drained 24-of-30 from the free throw line, with 24 of its free throw attempts coming in the final three quarters in the game.
