Karviar Shepherd Joins Women's Basketball Staff

Former Horned Frog moves to the bench as a graduate assistant
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU head women's basketball coach Raegan Pebley has announced that former Horned Frog men's basketball star, Karviar Shepherd, has joined her staff as a graduate assistant for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
"We are ecstatic about adding Karviar Shepherd to our program as a graduate assistant," said Pebley. "We love what he can bring to the table. He knows what it means to be a Horned Frog, a first-generation college graduate, a Big 12 student-athlete, a winner and how to bring honor to TCU. He has a heart to serve, develop and grow, and we know he will invest in this experience just as much as he did as a student-athlete."
Shepherd enters his first season as a graduate assistant after making the move from the court to the bench, following a four-year standout career with the Horned Frogs men's basketball team from 2013-17. While at TCU, Shepherd scored 855 points to average a career total of 6.5 points per game. One of TCU's most highly recruited athletes, Shepherd averaged a career-best 9.1 points per game, while starting in all 30 games as a freshman for the Horned Frogs during the 2013-14 season. He would go onto post career totals of 635 rebounds, 96 assists, 103 blocked shots and 62 steals and played a key role in TCU's 2017 NIT Championship run.
"Coming to TCU in 2013 was a blessing for me," said Shepherd. "I came here just to play the game of basketball, but throughout my time here I have grown in so many aspects of my life. God places obstacles along our path of life so that we can build a foundation and have a testimony to speak on His behalf. I had the opportunity to get to know Coach Pebley more over the past two years and she is a coach that I want to learn from, not only because she is very intelligent, but the one thing that made this decision a no-brainer is her servant heart. I'm excited to be a part of this staff and back around the TCU family,"
A native of Dallas, Texas, Shepherd graduated from Prime Prep Academy where he was rated the No. 46 player overall and the No. 3 center for the Class of 2013 by Rivals.com. He was also tabbed the No. 48 overall player according to both ESPN and Scout.com.
Shepherd earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and is now pursing his master's degree in liberal arts.
