Horned Frogs Stumble in California

TCU dropped both matches on the opening day of the East Meets West Challenge.

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – The spring break trip to California kicked-off on Saturday as the No. 19 TCU beach volleyball team stumbled on day one of action at the East Meets West Challenge in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

The Horned Frogs (5-5) faced off against two of the top-5 ranked teams and dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 5 Hawaii (3-2) to open the day before falling to No. 2 USC (8-1), 5-0, to end the opening day of action.

The duo of Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett got the only victory against Hawaii as the duo picked up the 21-17, 21-19 victory over Jenna Banz and Kylin Loker on court five. Two of the other four courts went the distance and needed three sets to decide a winner, but the Sandbows had the upper hand to finish off the match with wins on four courts.

USC controlled the second match from the very beginning and was able to take all five courts in straight sets.

TCU will continue its spring break trip in California as they wrap-up competition at the East Meets West Challenge by facing No. 3 Pepperdine and No. 1 UCLA on Sunday at 1 p.m., CT, and 6 p.m., CT, respectively.
