TCU will host another top-15 showdown on Wednesday against No. 12 Columbia.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Another top-15 showdown is next up on the slate for the No. 10 TCU men's tennis team as the Horned Frogs host No. 12 Columbia on Wednesday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Admission is free and fans can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., between the doubles and singles portion of the match.
TCU Notables
TCU moved up to No. 10 in the recent Oracle/ITA poll after getting three wins over the past week and moving its win streak to seven. The Frogs escaped Knoxville with a 4-0 sweep of then-No. 22 Tennessee before getting a 6-1 victory over Pepperdine and a 6-0 win over LMU. The top-10 ranking means that TCU has been ranked inside the top 10 of the country at least once every season for the last five years.
Senior Alex Rybakov stayed at No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA singles poll, while Alastair Gray moved up one spot to No. 25 and Bertus Kruger now sits at No. 115. Rybakov is 16-1 on the year and riding a five-match winning streak with an 8-1 mark against ranked opponents. Gray is also on a five-match winning streak and boasts a 12-2 mark on the year while Kruger leads the lead with 20 wins. Kruger and Reese Stalder have won their last six straight doubles matches and moved up 12 spots in the doubles poll to No. 6. Gray and Rybakov are also riding a four-match winning streak in doubles while freshmen Luc Fomba and Sander Jong have won their last three doubles matches.
Scouting the Lions
Columbia is 9-1 on the year and riding a six-match winning streak with wins against Notre Dame (4-2), Baylor (4-1), Northwestern (7-0), SMU (6-1), Tulane (7-0) and UT Arlington (6-1). The Lions have three ranked singles players and three ranked doubles pairs. Jack Lin leads the way with a No. 16 ranking followed by Victor Pham at No. 41 and Adam Ambrozy at No. 91. Lin and Jackie Tang pair up for a No. 5 doubles ranking with Tang also checking in at No. 48 with Ambrozy. Lin rounds out the rankings at No. 12 with William Matheson.
All-Time Series Records
Wednesday's match will be the 11th meeting all-time between TCU and Columbia with the Frogs holding a 6-4 advantage in the all-time series record. The match also marks the 11th consecutive season the teams have faced off with the first meeting coming in 2008. The teams have split the last eight meetings dating back to 2010 with TCU taking the last win in 2018 in Fort Worth, 4-0. The Frogs are 6-3 against Columbia when played at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center with the Lions last picking up a win in 2014.
