TCU will continue its opening week of action by welcoming McNeese State and New Mexico.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The opening week of action for the TCU women's tennis team will continue this weekend as the Horned Frogs welcome McNeese State and New Mexico to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
TCU will open with the Cowgirls on Saturday at 10 a.m., before finishing off the weekend by hosting the Lobos on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free for both matches and fans in attendance can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action during each match.
TCU Notables
TCU is coming off a 7-0 sweep of Abilene Christian to open the 2019 season on Tuesday. Four Frogs saw action in their first dual match in Fort Worth as TCU earned three straight-set singles victories. Newcomers Chloe Hule, Addy Guevara and Mercedes Aristegui all posted two wins on the day across doubles and singles. Freshman Aristegui leads TCU with five overall wins in singles with sophomore Stevie Kennedy also posting five wins.
Scouting the Cowgirls
McNeese State will be opening its 2019 season against TCU on Saturday and return four letterwinners from last season's squad that posted 18 wins overall including a 9-1 mark in Southland play. Charoline Erlandsson is the top returner with 15 wins in singles last season with 14 of them coming at the No. 5 position. Marija Mastilovic is the other top returner with 13 wins in singles. Erlandsson also had the most wins in doubles for the Cowgirls with 17 last season while Mastilovic picked up 13 wins.
Scouting the Lobos
New Mexico is also opening the season this weekend as the Lobos will travel to Baylor first on Saturday before arriving in Fort Worth on Sunday. The squad features one freshman, six sophomores and a lone senior in Ruth Copas. Copas has international experience after playing for Team Ireland at the Dundalk Cup. Yue Lin Chen led the Lobos with an 11-2 record in the fall with fellow sophomore Natash Munday and Copas each picking up eight wins.
All-Time Series
TCU and McNeese State will be facing each other for the first time in program history.
Sunday's match against New Mexico will be the 13th meeting all-time between the opponents with TCU holding a perfect 12-0 record in the all-time series. This will be the first time the teams have faced off since 2012 when the Frogs got a 6-1 victory in Fort Worth. In matches played at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, TCU holds a 6-0 record including back-to-back wins in 2011 and 2012.
