The Horned Frogs got a 7-0 win over Abilene Christian on Tuesday night.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Solid wins across singles and doubles led the TCU women's tennis team to a 7-0 sweep of Abilene Christian as the Horned Frogs opened the dual-match season on Tuesday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (1-0) had four players see action in their first collegiate matches in Fort Worth against the Wildcats (0-2) as freshmen Addy Guevara and Mercedes Aristegui got things started off with a 6-1 victory on court three of doubles. Newcomer Chloe Hule and sophomore Stevie Kennedy were able to clinch the point on court two as the duo picked up the 6-3 victory.
TCU won five of the six opening sets in singles action as freshman Kate Paulus got off to a quick start and put point No. 2 on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Allison Stewart. Sophomore Aleksa Cveticanin started off strong and finished off Sarah Adams on court one, 6-1, 6-4. Hule was able to put the Frogs over the top for the overall match victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court six over Ileana Mocciola. The final three matches were played out as TCU got one straight-set victory and two in three sets.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
"With four of our six girls playing their first match as a Horned Frog tonight, I am happy with everything. There were some nerves for sure, but I thought Stevie (Kennedy) and Chloe (Hule) led us out to a quick start in doubles and that Aleksa (Cveticanin) and Kate (Paulus) really set the tone in singles. There's a bunch we can improve on and I'm excited to focus on our situational awareness the next few days. Our goal for January is to get sharper with each match and I have no doubt we will do that. It was a bit sad not having Marie (Norris) out here. I got used to her solid presence and stability on our team. We are elated her surgery was a huge success and hopefully she will start a positive rehab in the coming weeks and months."
