
TCU Wins Twice on Day One at Nationals

WACO, Texas – The No. 6 TCU equestrian squad competed in all four of the event brackets on day one of the NCEA Championships, winning a pair of matches to move on to Friday's quarterfinals in the newly expanded format. The Frogs won in Horsemanship and Equitation Over Fences, but fell in Reining and Equitation on the Flat.
Before those event quarterfinals, the Frogs will turn their attention to Thursday's team quarterfinal against No. 3 Oklahoma State at the Extraco Events Center.
Fences – TCU 2, Sweet Briar 1
TCU's Equitation Over Fences squad, the No. 7 seed, took care of business against Sweet Briar, the No. 10 seed. Jayme Omand began the action with a 165-point ride on Dillon, ultimately defeating the Vixens' Emily Scholsberg. Elizabeth McKim rode next for the Frogs, earning a 169 on Teddy, but the head-to-head ended in a draw with Sweet Briar's Makayla Benjamin. Raegan Rast fell by one to Katie Balding, 160-159. The final point for the Purple and White came from Alex Beneson, who earned herself an impressive 170-point ride on Franc, downing Lilly Peterson by a margin of 18.
TCU will face Georgia, the No. 2 seed, in the Fences quarterfinals on Friday morning. The winner will advance to the semifinals, which will also be contested on Friday.
Reining – South Carolina 4, TCU 0
Meanwhile, TCU's Reining competitors, the No. 8 seed in the Reining championship fell to South Carolina, the No. 9 seed, in four very close rides. Elena Hurd started the Frogs off well with a 137.5-point ride on Callie but was edged by Bailey Walters' 138. Carly Lombard and Adrianna Adams both rode to an impressive 140.5-point ride but were edged 141.5 and 142.5 respectively by Caroline Gute and Paisley Roberts. Claire Dittrich rode to a 138-point decision but fell by half a point to Jordan Scott.
Horsemanship – TCU 4, Delaware State 0
TCU's Horsemanship, the No. 5 seed, opened the afternoon with a sweep Delaware State.. Jamie Cook started the action with a 144.5-point ride on Manny, topping Shelbe Jarrett's 143. Josie Mootz kept the momentum going on Chili, defeating Blayne Bell with a score of 148.5 to her 144. Cydney Benes rode Snip to a 140.5 decision, upending Cheyenne Adams by a margin of 4.5. Laska Anderson was granted a reride, and outdid Kelsey McArthur on Allen, 146.5-141.
The Frogs move on to face Oklahoma State, the No. 4 seed, in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. The winner will advance to the semifinals, which will also be contested on Friday.
Flat – South Carolina 4, TCU 0
TCU, the No. 7 seed, fell to South Carolina, the No. 10 seed, 4-0 on the Flat to close its day. Carley Barnett fell to Madison Brayman, 162-152 aboard Clover. Jayme Omand was edged by Chloe Schmidt, 161-159 on Swag. Emelie Burgess fell to Madison Sellman on Ariado, 163-154. To close out play on the Flat, Mady Fithian scored a 154 on Angelo, but was edged by Louisa Brackett's score of 159.

The Frogs will face Oklahoma State tomorrow in the first round of the standard team championship competition, with Horsemanship and Flat beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Extraco Events Center.
The winner will move on to the semifinals, which will be also be played on Thursday, to face the winner of Auburn and Baylor.
