FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU women's basketball played a complete game and kept its season alive with an 86-51 rout of Missouri State at Schollmaier Arena in the WNIT Second Round on Saturday.
TCU (21-12) made 14 3-pointers and also played stellar defense, holding Missouri State (21-12) to 25 percent shooting, on its way to a 35-point win, the largest margin of victory in a postseason game in program history.
Toree Thompson led the Frogs with 15 points off the bench, including four of TCU's 14 treys. The 14 3-pointers rank as the fifth most in program history and the most in a postseason game. Amber Ramirez added three from deep as part of her 14 points, also off the bench as TCU's bench outscored MSU's, 51-14.
TCU, which trailed after the first quarter, shot 54 percent (31-of-57) on the heels of shooting over 60 percent in its first round on Thursday.
Both teams faced a quick turn around after winning their first-round matchups on Thursday night, but now TCU will have time to rest. The Frogs will play the winner of New Mexico and Rice in the WNIT Third Round, but the Lobos and Owls don't play until Tuesday night.
Defining Moments
Missouri State held a 16-13 lead after one quarter, but from there TCU's defense stepped up. The Frogs held MSU to 4-of-16 shooting in the second quarter and closed the period on an 11-3 run to take a 40-30 lead at halftime. The Frogs made five 3-pointers in the second quarter after making just two in the first quarter.
TCU scored the first six points of the third quarter, quickly extending the lead, and Missouri State would never get closer than 13 points the rest of the game. The Frogs held MSU to 7-of-34 (20.5 percent) shooting in the second half, and the TCU lead was 21 points after three quarters and grew to as much as 38 late in the fourth quarter.
Stat of the Game
14 -- TCU's 14 3-pointers are the fifth most in program history and the most in a postseason game. They fell three shy of the WNIT record, held by Missouri State who made 17 in a game against Iowa in 2005.
Quote of the Game
"I love how we shared the ball today and the depth that we were able to show, not just in scoring, but the depth in what we were able to contribute on the defensive end. We knew tempo was going to be important. We knew that we needed to be able to sustain a high level of competiveness and really be able to assert ourselves defensively.
