AMES, Iowa – TCU's men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Big 12 Championship meet on Friday. The women's team finished eighth overall and the men finished ninth.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Six members of the women's team either ran a season or personal best during Friday's race. Evelyn Mandel was the top finisher for TCU, coming in 25th with a season-best mark of 21:11.7. Kirsten Johnston improved her place in the standings throughout the race and finished 38th with a season-best 21:39.1, less than one second off of her personal-best time. Lindsay Tomaini followed in 41st with a personal-best mark of 21:40.9. Elizabeth Baker finished in 23:04.7, followed by Erin Barth in 23:16.1, and Isabella Aguiar in 23:30.3.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
The men's side was led by freshmen Sean Byrne (25.35.8) and Lakelin Conrad (25:38.4), who finished in 38th and 41st respectively. Patrick LaCour and Henry Butz were the next Horned Frogs to cross the finish line, both of which finished with season-best times of 26:49.1 and 26:52.4 respectively.
COACH'S THOUGHTS
"I thought the women ran well," cross country coach Jennifer Fazioli said. "Certainly we were looking for the 6-7th place range, even without Mariah, and to be 6 points out of 7th and 10 out of 6th is both encouraging and frustrating at the same time. But almost all of them raced exactly as I asked them to and I am proud of them. KJ and Lindsay especially raced very strong today. All steps in the right direction."
UP NEXT
The Horned Frogs will head back to College Station for the NCAA South Central Region meet, scheduled for Friday, November 9.
