FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's basketball team used a strong outing from junior Jordan Moore to grab a season-opening 72-58 win over Oral Roberts on Saturday at Schollmaier Arena.
Moore set career-highs with 21 points and seven blocks while also adding eight rebounds. Amber Ramirez added 18 points and tied a career-high with seven assists. Five of those seven assists were to Moore.
TCU (1-0) won its fifth straight season opener and also won for the 21st time in its last 22 home openers. Oral Roberts (0-1) was led by Sarah Garvie who scored 20 points off the bench, thanks largely to six 3-pointers.
Defining Moments
The Frogs trailed by one after the first quarter, 15-14, but exploded for 30 points in the second quarter thanks to hitting 10-of-13 shots in the period. That included a stretch where the Frogs made nine straight shots.
That streak started with back-to-back 3-pointers from Ramirez to push a one-point TCU lead to seven points. The Frogs would never relinquish that lead as they stayed hot for the remainder of the second quarter and took a 44-30 lead at halftime.
TCU held its biggest lead of 18 points, 53-35, with 5:29 to go in the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles didn't go down without a fight. From that point, ORU went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead down to eight, 53-45, with 1:58 remaining in the third quarter, but would never get any closer.
Stats of the Game
21 -- Jordan Moore's career-high 21 points came on 8-of-13 shooting overall and 5-of-8 from the free throw line. She also set a career-high with seven blocks.
Quote of the Game
"We knew this wasn't going to be the typical opening game. We knew it was going to be tough, but that was intentional with our scheduling. We wanted to learn a lot about ourselves early in the season. Oral Roberts fit that bill. We knew they are a very good team that had a lot of great returning players that were going to test our interior and test our defense in a lot of ways." -- Raegan Pebley
