FORT WORTH, Texas - In its first-ever home matches, the TCU beach volleyball team was able to pick up its fifth sweep of the season with a win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi, before falling to No. 2 Florida State, 5-0, to end the first day of Fight at the Fort at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Horned Frogs (5-3) opened the day by taking straight-set victories on all five courts to notch the overall win over the Islanders (0-4), before battling it out with the Seminoles (11-0) to end the first day of the tournament.
Four of the five pairs were able to pick up their fifth wins of the season, while Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene continue to lead the team with a 6-2 overall record. Greene and Bergeson were one of two pairs to force three sets with the Seminoles. The pair went the distance in the opening two sets against Vanessa Freire and Sierra Sanchez, but could not hold on as Florida State took the final set, 15-9.
Ariah Palter and Molly Scheel also battled to three sets against Florida State, as the pair won the first set, 21-12, against Kayla Joyce and Annie Montgomery. Palter and Scheel dropped a close second set, 21-18, and could not take the momentum into the final set, as the duo fell 15-9.
