FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU beach volleyball team capped off its first-ever weekend at home by blanking Houston Baptist, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts.
The win over the Huskies (3-2) marked victory No. 6 for the Horned Frogs (6-3), as they closed out the tournament with a 2-1 record against the competition. The 5-0 sweep of Houston Baptist also marked the sixth shutout of the season.
TCU earned straight-set victories from the bottom four pairs, as Jaelyn Greene and Jillian Bergeson picked up a team-best seventh win on the season on court three. The top pairing on court one of Sarita Mikals and Michelle McNamee had to battle to three sets to get their win on Sunday. The duo won the opening set 21-19, but suffered a loss in the second set, 21-17, after an early run helped the Huskies split the sets. The teams traded points in the final set, but Mikals sealed the victory with a stuff at the net to win the set and the match, 15-13.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Erik Peterson
Opening Statement
"We knew that this was going to be a match that Houston Baptist was going to come in and really fight, grind, really make us earn points and that is exactly what they did. We were really happy with how we responded to somebody putting that kind of pressure on us and I think we came out of this match a better team and a better program."
On the first home weekend ever in program history
"I can not thank the fans enough. This was an unbelievable weekend. We have had tremendous support and we have had great crowds. They have been energetic and I looked up at one point yesterday during the Florida State match and there were probably 500 or 600 people, which is unbelievable for our first-ever event on our first day. Like I said before, I can not thank the fans enough and just the community at TCU in general and how much they support our athletics programs."
