
No. 1 Notre Dame Pulls Away from TCU

NOTRE DAME, Indiana -- The TCU women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with No. 1 Notre Dame on the road, but the Irish used a late run to pull ahead to a 92-59 win at Purcell Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
TCU (4-1) was within two points, 49-47, midway through the third quarter, but from there went over 12 minutes without a field goal as Notre Dame (6-0) closed the third quarter on a 17-3 run. The Irish also started the fourth quarter on a 17-3 run to grow their lead.
Through the game's first 25 minutes, the Frogs were shooting over 60 percent (19-of-30), but finished at 44 percent (21-of-48) after missing 13 straight over the third and fourth quarters.
AJ Alix led the Frogs with 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and five assists. Arike Ogunbowale led Notre Dame with 19 points, including 5-of-6 from long range. Brianna Turner added 18 points on 7-of-10 from the floor.
The Rundown
The Frogs and Irish were all tied up after a fast-paced first quarter, 22-22. Alix led TCU in the first quarter with seven points as the Frogs closed the frame on a 7-0 run to tie the score. The game stayed close over the next 10 minutes as well with Notre Dame holding a 37-34 lead at halftime.
The Frogs opened the third quarter by making their first six shots, with an Adeola Akomolafe bucket making the score 49-47 with 5:24 left. However, from there the Frogs went ice cold, missing 13 straight shots until an Alix 3-pointer with 3:39 to go in the game.
Notre Dame closed the third quarter on a 17-3 run that included seven points from Turner. The Irish also started the fourth on a 17-3 run until Alix hit her third trey with 3:39 to go.
The Irish finished the night 11-of-20 from long range, but the real defining stat was a 45-21 advantage on the glass. Those 45 rebounds included 20 on the offensive end that allowed Notre Dame to outscore TCU, 23-3, in second chance points.
