Norrie Victorious at Oracle/ITA Masters

FORT WORTH, Texas - In the first national collegiate championship of the 2015-16 season, sophomore Cameron Norrie came out on top and took the singles crown of the inaugural Oracle/ITA Masters on Sunday at the Malibu Racquet Club in Malibu, Calif.
The No. 15 ranked player in the nation, Norrie's matchup against No. 7 Nicolas Alvarez of Duke led off Tennis Channel's live broadcast of the event. Norrie raced out to a 5-0 advantage in the opening set, ultimately taking that 6-3. The second set saw Alvarez respond and ultimately push Norrie to a tiebreaker. Norrie found his rhythm in the tiebreak and clinched the match with a 7-2 score in the breaker.

"It's a great feeling to win this tournament," said Norrie, a sophomore. "Every match here was a battle, including today. Getting off to a fast start really helped me. I got a little nervous serving for the match, but was able to calm myself and close out a very tough opponent."

Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational
Four other TCU men's tennis players opened their fall slates this past weekend, with sophomore Trevor Johnson finishing runner-up in the singles bracket at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. As the No. 1 seed, Johnson was able to down four opponents, before ultimately falling to Harrison Scott of Texas, 7-5, 6-4 in the finals.
Johnson was also able to advance to the semifinals of the doubles bracket with partner Trey Daniel. Ranked as the No. 2 seed, the duo posted wins over New Mexico and San Diego, before falling to Herzan and Inoue of Wichita State, 7-5.
Reese Stalder and Gregory Anderson each posted their first victories as Horned Frogs at the tournament. Stalder advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Lewis Roskilly of Boise State, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, while Anderson scored a win over Chase Gordon of Tulsa, 6-3, 7-6. The duo also paired up to post a victory in doubles by defeating the Boise State pair, 7-6.
